Navigate Christmas Parties while Losing Weight
December 2, 2019Snack Time
December 10, 2019There are endless ideas for what you can put in your kids’ school lunches, and yet it is so easy to get stuck in a rut of the same boring sandwich. Sometimes just changing one ingredient, the type of “bread,” or the shape of the bread is all the difference your child will need. It is important to not give your child the same thing to eat for lunch everyday, because they need a variety of foods. Providing your kids with a variety of foods helps make sure they are getting all the nutrients they need. But for those days when sandwiches are on the menu, here are some ideas that will help change it up.
Put it on a kabob. You could put bread, cheese, and meat on a stick or tomato, basil, and mozzarella or just fruit and cheese. You can also put it on a toothpick.
Peanut Butter, Banana, and Honey. If your kids like crunchy, you can add granola as well.
Humus and Cucumber. If your kid doesn’t like humus try cream cheese.
Crackers and Cheese. Make your own lunchable.
Peanut Butter and Jelly. Try different kinds of nut butters to change it up. Almond, Cashew, and Sunflower Seed are all healthy options.
Tuna salad. You can also try chicken salad as well.
Black Bean Salad. This is really good in a wrap.
Change the Bread. Try to always buy whole wheat if it is an option. Graham crackers, Ritz crackers, English muffins, bagels, pitas, and wraps all work well for sandwiches.
“Apple Bread.” Use an apple as your bread and put peanut butter in the middle. I added Cheerios to mine, but you will have to pack it separately if you are packing it in a lunch. Make sure that you put lemon juice on the apples so they don’t turn brown before lunch.
Let me know, are there any fun sandwiches that your kids especially enjoy?
