December 10, 2019Three Easy Ways to Reduce Sugar without Kids Noticing
December 10, 2019I love pomegranates! They are really sweet, colorful, and nutritious. What is not to love? Ok, some may argue getting the seeds out of the pomegranate. This can be a bit tricky if you don’t know what you are doing. When you buy a fresh pomegranate, use this guide to help, “How to De-Seed a Pomegranate.” Some stores even sell the fresh pomegranate seeds so you don’t have to get them out yourself. More expensive of course, but less work for the busy mamas out there!
Curious about the nutrition benefits? Here are some facts for 1/2 cup of arils (the seeds.)
- 72 calories
- 3 grams of fiber (good source)
- 12 grams of sugar
- 15% vitamin C (very good source)
- 18% vitamin K (very good source)
- 8% folate (considered a good source)
Pomegranate seeds are also a good source of antioxidants as is true for many fruits and veggies. Polyphenols (antioxidants) found in pomegranates are thought to be good for your heart and help prevent cancer. All extra bonuses for the delicious, red fruit.
We enjoy eating fresh pomegranates by themselves. They can easily be added as a topping in salads, yogurts, and desserts as well.
I hope you enjoy them too!
