Pumpkin Pancakes
December 10, 2019Determining Childhood Obesity at Birth
December 10, 2019All the ghosts and goblins are all packed away, and now it’s the turkeys turn to come play! I have put out the Thanksgiving decorations, and I’ve already started reading articles about Holiday dishes. It makes me excited! I love the Holidays. The only downside to the holidays…the weight gain that often comes with it. Here are five tips to prevent it from happening to you this year.
1. Keep Exercise a Priority. With the cold weather and busy schedules, exercise often gets left out. Don’t let it. Try to make time to get your heart rate up. Even if you have to break it into three 10 minute sessions. Get the whole family involved for a walk before or after dinner.
2. Eat Snacks. Don’t go to a party hungry or you will eat too much. Eat a snack before you go. If it is not an option to snack first, then drink a glass of water before you eat.
3. Conquer the Buffet. Grab a small plate and don’t stack up the food. Remember to make half your plate fruit and veggies.
4. Spend Calories Wisely. Pass up those store bought treats that you get year round. Save those calories for “seasonal treats” like pumpkin rolls and yummy pies that are sooo tempting because you only get them “once” a year!
5. Don’t Unbutton those Pants. Listen to your body and stop eating before you are full. That overstuffed feeling is uncomfortable and not doing you any good.
I know some people are adamently against weighing themself, but you might want to consider weighing yourself weekly to make sure you’re not gaining weight. If you noticed you’ve gained a pound, then that might help give you the extra self control to say no to that second serving or dessert and prevent a five pound weight gain.
Enjoy the holidays, but be wise!
