Breakfast on the Go
December 10, 2019Division of Responsibility for Feeding Kids
December 10, 2019We went home to visit the grandparents this weekend and had a lovely visit with everyone. But I do have to admit I had a freak out moment when the MIL (mother-in-law) asked if they could take my little one to McDonald’s! My first reaction, “No way! He is only 19 months old! Besides, everyone knows McDonalds is the epitome of unhealthy.” But I took a deep breath, and decided it is unfair of me to not follow my own advice: Everything is okay in moderation. Yes, even McDonald’s! So I simply said, “Sure.”
As we are driving to McDonald’s, my husband asks me what I’m looking up on my phone. I just smile. He knows I am frantically looking up the nutrition facts for foods I think my son might eat. I decide on the McNugget Happy Meal. It is lower in fat, sodium, and calories than the hamburger and cheeseburger. It also doesn’t have any trans fat. As I order, I am surprised that they changed their Happy Meals to include both fries and apples now.
My son ate all of the apples, maybe one fry, and surprisingly a little bit of the nuggets. He typically doesn’t eat meats. He did have the best of time playing on the playground. (The main reason for our trip.) Overall, we had a great first experience at McDonald’s.
Do you remember how old your little one was when you first took them to a fast food restaurant? Did you think anything of it?
