Navigate Christmas Parties while Losing Weight
December 2, 2019Snack Time
December 10, 2019Sound like an oxymoron to you? Well, not if you make them yourself. Sound difficult? I hope not because it is really, really easy.
Since it has been so hot outside, I went looking for some healthy popsicles at the grocery store to help cool my toddler down after playing outside. Long story short, I came home empty handed and decided to purchase some popsicle molds. When they came in, my son was so excited just about the box. (You have to love toddlers excitement over boxes!) He repeatedly asked, “Help please,” because he wanted me to open it for him. When I took out the popsicle molds, he thought it was a new toy for him, and it kept him entertained for quite a while. They are very colorful!
When he grew tired of playing with the molds, I let him pick which fruit he wanted to use for the popsicles. He choose watermelon. One of his many favorite fruits! I put about a cup of watermelon in the blender, and then poured it into the molds. No extra sugar added, no preservatives, and no food coloring. Yay!
I think the directions said it would take about 4 hours to freeze, but we had friends coming to play the next day so we patiently waited. That it is, nothing more to it. Just fruit in the blender and voila! It only took about two minutes, plus the freezing time of course.
It was his first time to eat a popsicle! He loved it, and I loved it knowing that my son was eating a healthy snack! It would also be a healthy dessert for your kid as well! I’m super excited about trying different kinds of healthy popsicles. I think we are going to try yogurt next.
If you haven’t tried making your own popsicles before, I highly recommend it. Much, much healthier than the store bought and super easy! If you don’t have any popsicle molds, we bought the Orka A47221 Ice Pop Molds, White Base. They are the perfect size and catch the drips from the popsicle, unless you have a toddler like mine who turns it sideways and upside down. It is definitely an outside treat for us! Go ahead and try making some healthy popsicles! Let me know how they turn out.
